You Are the Role Model

 

"...the glory of children are their fathers" - Proverbs 17:6

 

In a Sunday school, before beginning the story, the teacher asked the children, “What does your father do first thing in the morning?”. Murali replied, “He reads the newspaper.” Vandhana said, “He goes for a walk.” Mayilvahanan answered, “He goes to play.” Ramesh said, “He goes to drink.” Dinesh responded, “He kneels down and prays.” Immediately, the teacher started and finished telling the story.

 

Yes, our children are watching us. They watch everything we do, even every move we make. Rather than teaching our children many things, when we do it, it becomes a habit for our children. We do the things that our children want to do. Let us make our way straight for our children who are with us and watch over us, regardless of the circumstances or the occasion. Let us think about whether we have things that our children need to learn and do good deeds. Let us not only be talkers but also doers. We should pray not only with family prayer but also individually. A minister named John Patten learned to pray when he was young by watching his father go to the prayer room and pray. Not only that, but he also said that he learned faith from his mother. He said that this gave him new enthusiasm and encouragement in his ministry. He fulfilled his ministry in the New Hebrides Islands. The people there were uncivilized, they killed and ate humans. What he learned from his parents supported him throughout his life.

 

Let us think as parents. Do we live a double life in front of our children, saying that I have done nothing wrong? Our children will know that. When they grow up, they will do the same thing. Let us fear the Lord and live righteously. Let us try to live as good examples. If we were to ask our children the same question that the Sunday school teacher asked that day, what would their answer be? Let us act! Let us be reformed!
