Why the Thorn?
"Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree;..." - Isaiah 55:13
There was a rich man in a large city with a large population. He thought that he wanted to make his own land a good garden, so he planted many trees, plants, etc. It looked beautiful to look at. But he also planted a thorn in the middle of that garden. Many who saw this had a question, why this thorn when the beautiful flowers and fruit trees were so attractive to look at? The owner of the garden said, "I have put it all for a reason"! One day came. They were going to crucify Jesus. They said that they wanted to make a crown of thorns for him, so they came looking for a thorn. It was not an ordinary thorn, but the thorn that could penetrate the forehead and go into the head was in this rich man's garden, and they took it away. Hearing this, the gardener was saddened. I could have taken this thorn away forever. Many people told me to, but I did not listen. But now, this is hurting my God, he cried.
The purpose of Jesus choosing 12 people was for them to be with him and preach. One of these 12 was Judas, who betrayed him. This Judas betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver out of greed. The one who had been with him for three and a half years acted as a thorn. It was Peter, who was close to him, who denied him.
Dear brother and sister who are reading this, Judas betrayed Jesus only once. Do we deny the Lord every day with our actions and words? He has chosen us to bear fruit. He has also given us a place for ourselves. But do we, each time betraying Jesus, lose our place and live like a thorn? The life given to us is one life. Will we dedicate that one life to Him and strive to get rid of the thorn-like nature that is found in us and live like a divine tree?
