"...But Ruth clung to her" - Ruth 1:14
A group of frogs ran fast towards the water. They didn't even look at the path. Three of the frogs fell into a big hole on the way. The other frogs, instead of going towards the path, came near the hole and stood there watching. The three frogs which had fallen in the hole jumped up as fast as they could to get to the top. One of the frogs who was watching this from above said, "You can't get up. Why are you trying in vain?" Hearing this, one of the frogs got tired and sat down in a corner. Only two tried to get up. The other frog on top said, "When the rainy season comes, this hole will fill with rainwater. Then you can easily swim up. Stay here until then." Thinking this was a good idea, the second frog also stopped jumping. But only one persistently tried to get up. But the two frogs that were with them said, "You too, stay with us, we are your helpers." But the frog, as if it had not heard anything, tried jumping again and again and reached the top and went out of the hole.
Elimelech and Naomi lived as a family in the land of Moab. Their two sons married Moabite women. One of them was named Orpah, and the other was named Ruth. After ten years, their husbands also died, and Naomi lost her two sons and her husband and was left alone. At this point, Orpah kissed her mother-in-law and passed on. Ruth clung to her tightly. Because Ruth held on to Naomi, Ruth was blessed by the Lord and was the reason why Jesus Christ came to earth.
Dear readers! We may have made many resolutions in our lives. Every year we make resolutions, and we may fail in them and not be able to fulfil them. Just as the other frogs ridiculed the frog that fell into the pit, others may criticize us that we cannot keep our resolutions. But let the work of Ruth be seen in us. Just as Ruth clung to her mother-in-law, let us cling to God. If we cling to Him completely, no matter what our work is, it will succeed. Will we cling to Jesus in any situation in our lives?
