Dog character

“For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning" - 2 Peter 2:20

According to the Bible, a dog is considered an unclean animal. “Do not give what is holy to dogs”; we read in Matthew 7:6. The Jews regarded the Canaanites as dogs. According to the customs and culture of the Jewish people, dogs were considered worthless and the price of a dog was considered disgusting. Furthermore, Peter compares those who repent and return to their old sin to a dog eating its own vomit.

There are people in the Bible who, like dogs, ate their own vomit. Demas, who hated worldly desires and chose the higher ministry, went to serve with the apostle Paul. But he loved this world and left Paul and went with the world. He was the one who served with the great apostle Paul, but he was also dragged back by his backsliding. The Bible warns us through this that if those who have escaped the worldly desires are again entangled in them and overcome, their future will be worse than their present and Peter strongly criticizes this as if it were like a dog eating its own vomit again. Let us examine ourselves and see if we look back after putting our hands on the plough.

Next, although a dog naturally has many qualities, its nature is changed by a man and is used for many tasks in the house. With its sense of smell, it can detect criminals, protect its master’s property, and obey his word. If a mere animal with five senses can be transformed by an ordinary man, how much more certain is it that our character will be transformed by Jesus Christ? It is not God’s will that anyone should be corrupted. He can make any man shine. All kinds of people can belong to the Lord Jesus. Yes, there is no doubt that the suffering, death, shedding of blood, burial, resurrection, and filling with the Holy Spirit of Jesus will make men different, new men, the descendants of Jesus. Jesus desires that we should become born again. He invites everyone to be born again, as Jesus invited Nicodemus. Our old sinful natures can be changed and we can manifest the image of Christ as new men. Hallelujah!
