What to take with you?

 

"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…" - Matthew 6:20

 

There was a millionaire. To show how many crores of rupees he had, he tied flags on top of his house. He still had the desire to earn more money. He kept accumulating property, money, and gold. One day, a servant went to meet him. The servant who came gave the rich man a pin and said, "Sir, keep this safe. When heaven comes, I will come there and collect it from you," and left. When the rich man thought about it, his wife told him the meaning. "No matter how many crores you earn, or how many floors you build, when you leave this earth, you have to leave everything behind. This servant has done this to show that you cannot take even a pin to heaven." What meaningful words. So, is it wrong to earn and save? The question may arise. It is not wrong! But what is more important? Earning and saving are useless if you waste time and do not think about eternity.

 

In the parable told by Jesus Christ, the following incident occurred. The land of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly. What shall I do? I have no room to store my goods? I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones and there I will store my grain and my goods. Then I will say to my soul, ‘Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.’ But God said to him, "You fool! Tonight your soul will be taken away from you. Then whose will be the things you have stored up?"

 

Beloved do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth. There are many insects, rust and thieves here. But when we put the Kingdom of God first, God will fill us with heavenly treasure.
