Flies

 

"Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour" - Eccl. 10:1

 

When we hear the word "flies," we think of the song we learned as children, "Put rice on a leaf, and drive the flies away!" “Flies” are a species that flies through the air. They pollute the air and carry filth wherever they go, spreading germs. But they do not sit on hot food. Similarly, if we remain warm in our spiritual life, the impurities and sins like flies cannot take hold of us.

 

Flies find food with their voracious appetite. Flies can see 360 °, that is, from all angles. In the above verse, the wise man says that a dead fly is enough to make a fragrant, expensive ointment stink. A little foolishness can make a person famous for wisdom and honour to stink. For example, in the life of King Uzziah, the fly called "pride" destroyed all his good qualities. The pride of being able to do the work of offering incense to the altar, which only priests do! He forgot God's command and exalted himself. The dead fly called pride wasted his fragrant life. A little leaven makes the whole lump sour. (1 Cor 5:6). The Bible advises us not to give place to the devil. God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness. (1 Thess 4:7)

 

Beloved! A dead fly can spoil the expensive ointment. Even a small sin in our life can ruin our entire life. Therefore, we must be careful. No matter how many good qualities we have, if we have one bad quality, it will spoil everything. Even if a drop of poison is mixed in a jug of milk, will it not become poisonous? If a drop of sewage water falls in clean drinking water, can we drink it? If we too seek God's help to live a holy life that is pleasing to God, instead of being like flies that spread impurity in our daily lives, God will surely help us.
