Daily Devotion (English) – 12.05.2021

Keep open house 

“…Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.” – Acts 10:24

Brother Yun was a Chinese missionary who was called “The Heavenly Man” Those were the days when Yun just received salvation. His father suffered from a terminal disease. The doctors told him to prepare for his death. Yun’s family laid their hands on him and prayed with one accord for his healing. And God miraculously cured him of his deadly disease. In those days’ communism was pre-dominant in China. It was illegal to hold meetings. But Yun’s family wanted to share the good news with everyone in their village. All the relatives, friends and neighbors were urged to come to their house. Without mentioning the reason, they were called. People thought that it must be the funeral of Yun’s father. They rushed to his house. To their astonishment, Yun’s father was in good health. They explained to the people how he was cured in an amazing way. All the visitors knelt down on the floor and prayed with tears. They received remission of sins and gladly accepted Jesus as their Lord and Master and became believers of Christ. 

When Cornelius was waiting to meet Peter, he had called together his relatives and close friends. They were all eager to hear his words. Peter preached to Cornelius and his household. While he was still speaking about God, the Holy Spirit fell upon them. The entire heaven would have rejoiced. In his heart of hearts, Cornelius had a burden and longing for the salvation of his kith and kin. So, he welcomed them with open arms to his house. There was a great revival. 

Do we have that craving like Yun and Cornelius? If we have won the good will of our neighbors and friends they will gladly come to our houses, if they are called. We may not be able to meet some friends and relatives. We can very well create an opportunity for their visit. We can invite them to birthday celebration or wedding anniversary. When we share the blessings, we received from God with them, they will come to know Jesus. Gradually such celebrations can be converted into cottage prayer and this will enable the non-Christians to know Jesus and we can be soul winners. There will be more rejoicing in Heaven over the redemption of a single soul.
