Daily Devotion (English) – 11.05.2021

Praying mother 

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he would not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

John Wesley was a prolific preacher and the founder of Methodism. There was a great awakening and revival in England through his powerful preaching. He had impacted millions of lives all over England for Jesus. Wesley had been credited keeping England free from bloody Reign of terror and revolution and widespread social unrest during his days. He practically changed the outlook and character of the English Nation. John Wesley owed a lot to his mother Susanna who was the cause for his success in his ministry. When Wesley was a little boy, their house was burned down. John Wesley nearly died during the fire but rescued in the last minute only by prayer. So, his mother dedicated and trained him to do ministry. Susanna nurtured John Wesley, gave him good education and instilled discipline and her godliness into him. Susanna taught the Lord’s prayer to her kids as soon as they began to speak. She trained them to say the prayer every morning and night. She could spare an hour every night to discourse with each child apart about spiritual matter. Her obligation, patience and fervent and faithful prayer moulded Wesley into a powerful preacher and to be a great blessing to England. 

In the book of 1Samuel in the Old Testament, we read about Hannah. Seeing her God-fearing life and her desperate prayer, godliness and faith, the Lord blessed her with Samuel the judge and the prophet. Hannah asked for him from the Lord and received him. As Samuel was dedicated to God, his mother prepared him to serve God in the temple even though he was a little boy.

Beloved in Christ, how far do we try and train our children to grow in Christ? Hosea 4:6 says, “…because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” So, let us strive hard every day to read the Bible and to walk in God’s ways and then teach our children the word of God and pray fervently for them. Let us all become as prayerful, responsible, patient and Godly as Wesley’s mother. It is certain that our children and ourselves will be used by God in the end time revival. Amen.
