"...Amend your ways and your deeds" - Jeremiah 7:3

 

The people living in the New Hebrides Islands were accustomed to eating human flesh until the 18th century. No one could go to that island and preach the gospel. A young man from Scotland named John Paton went to that island carrying the word of the Lord. This was a tough path. Although others said that it was dangerous for his life, John Paton decided that it was necessary to walk through the narrow gate for the Lord and traveled to the New Hebrides Islands in 1858. The people persecuted him in many ways. However, no harm came to him. Therefore, the people of this area came to know about Christ through Paton. He gave them education and knowledge and in 1899 translated and published the New Testament in the Aniva language. After witnessing with his own eyes that many people repented and accepted Christ, Patten died in 1909 at the age of 83.

 

In the Bible, God commanded the city of Nineveh to be saved through the prophet Jonah. The wickedness of the people of the great city of Nineveh reached the sight of God. God revealed their sinful condition through the prophet Jonah and gave them an opportunity to correct their ways and deeds. They realized their sinful life and repented for it, and not only sat in sackcloth and ashes, but also corrected their ways and deeds.

 

Dear reader! Time is passing quickly. Another new year has been born. The Spirit of God is struggling with us many times to correct us. If we have heard the voice of God many times, but have not corrected ourselves and are living according to the way of our hearts, let us examine ourselves today. If we surrender our ways and deeds before the Lord and trust in Him, our affairs will surely improve. So may the Lord help us to improve the things that need to be improved in our lives.
