Daily Devotion (English) – 09.05.2021 (Kids Special)

Irin’s house was in a lush mountainous area where there were tea plantations. She was weak by nature. She often said to herself that she was feeble. She often cried out of pain in her legs, arms and stomach. One day her mother went out to work in the tea estate. Irin was alone at home. She wanted to do the simple chore of sweeping to please her mother. Her house consisted of three rooms. She swept only two rooms. Then she felt pain in her arms and so she left the third room unswept. After sometime, she tried to wash the dishes. But she was dropping the utensils with clanging sound. Just then Irin’s grandmother entered. 

Her grandmother told her to wash the dishes without breaking them and to take rest if she could not do it. Hearing her grandmother’s comment, she ran into her room and wept. She wailed and self-pitied that she was good for nothing because of her frailty. Suddenly her eyes fell on the small spider on the wall and she felt as if it was talking to her. It seemed to say “Look at me! Even though I am a little creature, I weave my own web. I do not worry or feel anxious about anything. I dare to enter and weave my web skillfully in king’s big palace. Believe in yourself and you can gain strength to do your work.” 

Irin began to ponder. Then she prayed to God saying, “Jesus, even a tiny spider does its work happily. You give me strength and energy. Thank you, Jesus, for speaking to me through the spider.” After the prayer she felt strengthened and she was able to sweep the third room, then to fold the dried clothes. She could not believe her eyes. Her body aches vanished. Irin’s mother delighted to see her being helpful at home. She could notice the change in her attitude. Irin felt as if the spider was shaking hand with her. She thanked the spider for teaching her a good lesson.

Dear little kids, do you think you are weak and unable to achieve anything? No, no. Jesus is there to change our weakness and strengthen us. You too pray like Irin. You believe that you are capable of performing great things. Jesus is powerful to help you. Don’t worry. Be cheerful, children.
