Can we be accepted?

“And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king…” - Acts 13:22 

In the Bible we come to know that the Lord rejected Saul from being king over Israel and David was anointed as the King in his place. Let us see two of the reasons for God’s rejection of Saul. 

David, a man after God’s own heart, had a mind to respect the sacrifice of others. When the garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem, David was in the stronghold. David said with longing “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate.” So, the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless, he would not drink it but poured it out to the Lord as they brought it risking their lives for him. But Saul did not duly honor David when he killed Goliath. Instead, he hunted his life to take it. 

Look at the distinction between Saul and David in their reverence for the God’s anointed ones. Though Saul was delivered into David’s hand many times, he did not dare to stretch out his hand against Saul as he was the Lord’s anointed. But Saul did not hesitate to strike Ahimelech, the priest of the Lord and the other eighty-five priests who wore a linen ephod, though they pleaded their innocence. Just think of the difference in their mindsets. So, the Lord rejected Saul from being a king. But David was given the royal position as the king.

Beloved in Christ, acceptance and rejection of our lives by God depends on our fear of God. Do we appreciate and value the dedication and sacrifice of others or whatever we do is conspicuous in our sight? Do we belittle and offend God’s anointing and the anointed? Let us ponder. It is of no use if we are presumptuous, arrogant and hard hearted like Saul. Let us live like David and receive God’s grace and find favor in His eyes.
