Gratitude
"…Be thankful" - Colossians 3:15
God has done many good things for us. First of all, we can say that we have oxygen rich air to breathe, good water to drink, and delicious vegetables and fruits to eat. Some of these we receive for free, and some as the result of hard work. Do we think of the Lord who has given us all this with gratitude? Do we serve Him without forgetting gratitude? Let us examine ourselves.
We also see many people in the Bible who have forgotten gratitude. After the death of Ahaziah, king of Judah, when his mother Athaliah had killed all the royal family of Judah, Josiah the daughter of the king and her husband Jehoiada the priest took Joash the son of Ahaziah and hid him for six years. In the seventh year, Jehoiada gathered the people and made Joash king in the temple when he was seven years old. Then the people and the Levites helped Joash, killed Athaliah, and the kingdom passed into Joash's hands. Joash obeyed the Lord's commands all the days of his life, and he was blessed. After Jehoiada the priest died, he listened to the words of the other princes and turned away from the Lord. He did not serve the Lord but served other gods. King Joash forgot Jehoiada, who had taken him in from childhood, raised him, made him king, and had been his guide and advisor until his death. He forgot all the help and deeds he had done, and killed his son Zechariah, even in the courtyard of the temple of God. He forgot the benefits and became a traitor. The Lord saw this. Even though the armies of Judah were a very large army, the Lord gave Joash into their hands. They left Joash in great pain. Those who were with him killed Joash.
Jesus Christ also shed his own blood for our sins and redeemed us. For whom did Jesus suffer and die on the cross? For each of us. He shed his blood to save each one from the curse of sin. Do we accept this incomparable love? Or do we ignore and reject his sacrifice of life without being grateful? Dear brothers and sisters, first of all, let us thank God for the good things He has done. Let us accept His salvation and redemption without neglecting it, and let us inherit His blessings. May God grant us the grace to enter eternal life! Amen.
