Small Beginnings

 

"(The shepherds) came with great haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger…" - Luke 2:16

 

A 6-year-old girl used to go with her father to their cowshed from time to time to watch the cows being milked and to give them hay. One day, her father said, "Today we must go and see the cows tied up on the south side of the farm and give them hay in the manger." Hearing the word "manger," the little girl was very excited. Her mother had told her that the newborn baby Jesus was laid in a manger. She wondered if there was a manger in our cowshed too, and immediately urged her father to take her there. When she went there with curiosity, she was shocked and surprised to find that the manger was a simple enclosure made of cardboard. She asked her father with doubt whether Jesus could have been born in such a simple place and got clarity.

 

What does the prophecy tell us? The beginning of Jesus Christ also began from a humble place. Therefore, it shows that the beginning is not important for living a life that is useful and blessed for others and for proclaiming the Lord. Jesus Christ was the son of a carpenter, born in a stable, laid in a manger, and killed like an ordinary criminal. But isn’t it an unthinkable truth that HE became the Savior of all mankind?

 

Weary people of God! Be encouraged. Doesn’t the prophecy tell us without saying that we, who are ordinary and insignificant, are also worthy of serving God and proclaiming the word of God? Do you know a truth? The message of God is given to this world through ordinary people like us. Therefore, even if your beginning is insignificant, God will bless your end. Jesus Christ’s beginning was insignificant, but his end was amazing. May the great truth taught by the Prophet make us run with enthusiasm in the Christian life.
