Strengthen Yourself in the Lord
“...But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God." - 1 Samuel 30:6
Billy Graham, a famous minister of God, felt troubled in his life when he felt like he was in a dark situation. He prayed with tears to get out of the situation. But he did not get relief. He felt as if God had left him in his heart. Billy Graham wrote a letter to his mother. His mother sent him a beautiful reply. Do you know what the reply was? My dear son, do not be troubled, it seems to you that the Lord has left you to test your faith. In fact, God has not left you. He is testing you to see how much trust you have in Him in such a situation. His arms are stretched out for you. He will never forsake you. Billy Graham was strengthened by his mother’s reply that his hands are stretched out for you. He will never forsake you.
Such situations come in everyone's life. There will be situations like being abandoned by God, situations like being left alone. In the Bible, David, who was after God's own heart, was loved by King Saul. He was. King Saul, jealous of David, sought to kill him. At that time, David lived in the mountains and in the caves. Even in that situation, he strengthened himself in the Lord. When he was driven away by the desire of his son’s throne, he cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and why do you not hear the words of my cry?” (Psalm 22:1). However, he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted, nor did he hide his face from them, but he heard them when they cried to him. (Psalm 22:24) David also says, “Because David strengthened himself in the Lord, in the day of my trouble they came against me; but the Lord was my support.” (Psalm 18:18) When we are in situations like being left alone and surrounded by darkness, we can experience the power of the Lord in our lives when we do not lose heart and are strengthened by His word. When we hold on to the word of the Lord, it will strengthen us and strengthen our faith. When we look at the situation, we will feel tired and fear will cling, and terror will come. In the end, we will lose. On the contrary, when we are strengthened by the word of the Lord, our faith will be strengthened. We can gain victory over by the hand of the Lord.
