Daily Devotion (English) – 05.05.2021

God, comfort me!

“Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake.” – II Corinthians 12:10

Missionary couple Ray and Sophie served heroically in West Africa for more than 40 years. They were strong servants of God who had carried out a ministry of unimaginable stress. Those who hear about their fruitful ministry can’t stay without glorifying the Lord. After accomplishing an excellent ministry, Sophie suffered from the loss of all motor control of her body and she grew older and languished. She was unable to button her clothes or lift a cup of water to her lips. But she never gave room for bitterness or self-pity. In her moments of utter weakness, she would quietly remind herself, “Sophie, you have been called for this; For this you have chosen Jesus.” She felt that her pain and suffering were a part of the fabric of her life and ministry.

Let us have a close look at the life of Paul given in today’s Scripture reading. Apostle Paul did a wonderful ministry and brought glory to the Holy name of God. In the midst of his untiring ministry, he suffered physically because he was given a thorn in his flesh, which was a messenger of satan to buffet him. He did not worry about it. Instead, he learnt to boast gladly in his infirmities as the power of Christ would rest upon him and his strength would be made perfect in weakness. Indeed, he took delight in it. If a person who is not in Christ reads it, he will feel that it is tough and too much for anyone. Can we believe that God allows such rough paths in the lives of the people who love Him with their whole heart?

The Lord God longs to strengthen you through this message. The Bible says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (II Corinthians 4:17). Great joy awaits us in heaven. So, give glory to God amid your weaknesses and infirmities as we are going to rejoice with heavenly benefits, “In everything give thanks.” The Lord God who turns bad into good will perform a miracle for you today. Have faith in God.
