Don't look back

 

"…No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God" - Luke 9:62

 

Dr. Charles Lambie worked as a medical missionary in Sudan. He went to his native America in 1917. Then he was persuaded by his close relative not to go back to Sudan and stay in America. Enough of working so hard in Sudan, stay here and work with me in my hospital. He said I will give you my hospital in a few years. Don't miss this rare opportunity. Then confusion started for Charles. He attended a meeting held for missionaries. The confusion hasn't changed. He fell asleep due to physical exhaustion. Then he had a dream. In it a leprous hand from a map of North East Africa came towards him. Shall I hold this hand? said Charles in disgust. Then it became the nailed hand of Jesus. Immediately he said that God is calling me to work in Sudan and went to work in Sudan.

 

It is our nature as human beings that at some point in life, the words of people and situations that come to us can easily make us fall behind. The disciple who followed God said to Peter, "On this rock I will build my church", and when Jesus died, he went fishing. Then God was greatly disappointed. But not wanting to go back, God came there and caught 153 big fish. Elijah was also afraid of Jezebel's words and left his work to go alone or leave his life altogether. Elijah stood before the Lord and ran away. There too God sent an angel and spoke. He told the plan to do with him.

 

Beloved, the work, profession, position you are doing is not something you sought, but God gave it to you. Be true to these. Don't leave halfway. Even if disappointment and failure seem to come, when you are true, it is more certain that God, who does more than we pray and think, will do the same and make us useful to many. Do the ministry you do near home in your workplace, no matter how small, do not give up and do not back down. God will bless and multiply even the smallest service when done faithfully.
