ROTTENESS to the bone

 

"A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones" - Proverbs 14:30

 

A sculptor made a very fine statue and kept for public viewing. He also kept a blackboard near it for the audience to write their comments about the statue. All who saw it marvelled at its artistic delicacy and wrote in praise of the sculptor. But there came another sculptor. Jealousy filled his mind and made his eyes look for fault. So he examined the idol very carefully for several hours. Finally he found a flaw in it. He wrote that small flaw in big letters on the blackboard. After that all those who came there carefully looked at that flaw. They did not know the beauty of the idol.

 

In the Bible we see that the brothers were jealous of Joseph. Because Joseph was born in Jacob's old age, he loved him more than the other sons and gave him a multi-coloured coat. They were jealous of him and thought that they would kill him because of the dream he saw. Then they sold it to Ishmael people for 20 pieces of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt. They sold him to Potiphar, the ruler of Pharaoh, a Midianite in Egypt. The Lord was with Joseph. So he was transferred to Egypt as an official. Jealousy - caused Joseph to leave his father, his home, and his country. Yet everything was God's will. Jealousy of others is universal. It is not right to be jealous of your neighbours. We should not be jealous of other people's lives or the blessings they have. The scripture says thus, Jealousy is rottenness to the bones. Tuberculosis destroys the health of the body from the inside and destroys the internal organs. Jealousy is compared to this.

 

Let's think about what kind of people we are who are reading this. Instead of regretting that we don't get something, let's correct ourselves by seeing if we have the envy that makes us happy that others don't get it.
