Abide in me

 

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you" - John 15:7

 

At a time when the Bible was not readily available, a fourteen-year-old girl named Mary Jones had a longing for the church and a thirst for the Scriptures. After coming home from school, she collected money for six years by selling chicken eggs and doing laundry to buy a Bible for herself. Taking the money to buy a new Bible, she walked fifty miles into the rugged hill country and bought a "Welsh language" Bible from a preacher named Thomas Charles. Not only she learn it, but she also taught it to her villagers and led many to the Lord. This little girl named Mary Jones was responsible for the formation of the Bible Society and the printing of the Bible in many languages.

Even in the Scriptures, the people of Berea eagerly accepted the scriptures and were seen as virtuous because they studied the verses of the scriptures. Therefore many of them believed, and many men and women among the Greeks of honor. Yes, we can hear the messages of many piousmen today through social networking sites. But we can live a lasting Christian life only if we carefully examine whether all of them correspond to the scriptures. Otherwise we will be like reeds blowing in the wind.

 

Yes, dear ones, we too can live a fruitful life when we are willing to read and meditate on the Scriptures. We read in John 8:31 that if we continue in God's teaching, we will be God's disciples. The scriptures say that he who endures to the end will be saved. Only those who listen to the scriptures and follow them can live in the end.

 

How much time do we spend on cell phones today? If we calculate how much time we spend meditating on the scriptures, we can find are we abiding in Christ or not? It is understood. Let us thirst for the scriptures, like Mary Jones, like the townspeople of Berea. Let us lead many into faith.
