For who do you live?
“For our light affliction…is working for us a more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen…” – II Corinthians 4:17, 18
Brother William Booth, the founder of the salvation army church had written about his dream in his message. In his dream, he seemed to be an ordinary believer. He saw the scenes of his death and his entry into heaven. There he could see the book of life and in the record of the book of life the word “Forgiven” was written in bold letters. He was exceedingly delightful as he was forgiven and taken to heaven.
But Booth could see another big team of believers shining with the glory of the light of God upon their countenance. Who are they? They are the people who did not count their lives dear to themselves on the earth. On seeing the ineffable glory, Booth envied them. Jesus came near him and said sorrowfully, “You can never join those people whose faces are radiant with the glory of the light of God by all means. Do you know why? You lived for yourself on the earth but they gave their lives for the service of the Lord. William Booth awoke suddenly. Then he understood that he was alive and he had seen everything in his dream. That day he took a resolution to be dead for self and to spend the remaining part of his life for the service of God.
Most of the believers have accepted Jesus, saved by Him, anointed and they worship, praise, and pray offer tithe and have the confidence to receive heavenly bliss. But above all, there is a precise truth for the Christians. What is that? “Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” says the Lord. In fact, we say that Christ dwells in us but still we rely on self and refuse to do away with it.
Beloved, do we have the mind of Christ? Let us not run after worldly blessings. It’s enough being selfish. Let us lead a selfless life having the mind of Christ. Let us live for others, and strive hard to be present in that group of people who are dazzling with indescribable glory. There is only one life. So far, we have spent our life in earning, enjoying and panting for praises from others. Let us stop living for ourselves and start living a sacrificial life with the mind of Christ and finish our race peacefully. Amen. Hallelujah!
