Faithful and cheerful

“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” – 1Peter 5:6

A certain man studied Theology in the Bible College and he had ample knowledge of the word of God. He joined a church to do ministry. He thought that he would be given the responsibility to lead worship and to preach. But he was given the work of washing up dirty dishes. He was shocked and murmured in his mind “I am a theologian mighty in Scripture and how can they ask me to wash the dishes.” But the Holy Spirit prompted in his heart that his prideful thoughts were wrong. At once he humbled himself before God and again submitted himself to God. Afterwards he did his duty faithfully and cheerfully. Months passed by. Then a convention was arranged by the church. They were informed in the last hour that the man of God who was invited to give the message was indisposed. So, in the last minute the theologian was asked to speak to the congregation. That day he preached with zeal and God used him powerfully. Later he was sent to many places to share the message of God by the elders who witnessed his powerful sermon.

David was fleeing Jerusalem to escape from Absalom his son who was plotting against him. He set out with all the people following him and entire household. Once outside the city, Ittai marched with his army to support him. David said, “You have joined me recently. Return and remain with the king.” But Ittai pledged David loyalty. He assured saying, “Surely whatever place my Lord the king shall be whether in death or life even there also your servant will be.” Later Ittai was one of the captains who went for the battle. 

Beloved, we might have entered a new workplace or a ministry. We might be entrusted with new responsibilities and given designation. We may find it tough to carry out the tasks or the work may be below our dignity. But when we perform the work assigned to us faithfully and cheerfully unmindful of the disadvantages we will be exalted like the man of God and Ittai.
