Even if mother forgets

“Can a woman forget her nursing child and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely, they may forget, yet I will not forget you.” - Isaiah 49:15

In the year 1999, an eight-year-old boy was found wandering in Palghat, Kerala. He was rescued by the police and enquires were made. The boy introduced himself as Abai and his father as Antony. He said that he was from Bangalore. As the police could not get clear details of his identity from him, he was brought before the court. The judge gave the order to send him to children’s home.

A certain woman named Sucila read about the boy and claimed Abai as her son. She narrated how her mother-in-law snatched the baby from her. Thus, Abai was brought up by Sucila for two years. She showered motherly love on him. After two years Abai was again brought before the court. Sucila said that by mistake she claimed Abai as her son as her husband’s name was also Antony and they resided in Bangalore. She also added that she had found her son in Bangalore. She showed them her son’s photo. She apologised for her mistake. She just disowned the boy and asked the judge to make the decision. Abai did not weep when he was wandering as an orphan. But after enjoying the warmth of the mother’s love for two years, he could not part with her and so wept pathetically. On seeing this heart-rending scene, the judge asked that lady if she could consider Abai as her own son and raise him up. But she went away without any reply. Once again Abai was sent to children’s home. 

There are thousands of little boys and girls all around the world forsaken and rejected by the parents. There are a few hard-hearted and merciless mothers who are self-indulgent and tend to do away with the kids. There are incidents of child selling owing to poverty. Our hearts throb to hear and read such agonizing news on TV and in newspaper.

Our Lord is the embodiment of love and compassion. He will neither abandon nor reject His children who love Him and live with Him by faith. Beloved, let us be praise and glorify God and live-in hope that the Lord almighty who has made us and minds us, upholds, bears, carries and delivers us is always with us. Let us ne borne by God’s grace.
