Abandon wrath
“…Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2
Simon Fletcher who lived in West Indies was a man of wrath. He would lose his temper easily. When Jesus came into his life, there was a great change. He forsook anger and in the bottom of his heart, he felt the burden for souls and his love for God increased. He did simple gospel ministry. One day he knocked at the door of a certain house. A lady opened the door. She was holding a jar of milk in her hand. She identified him as a minister of Christ. In a fit of anger, she poured the jar of milk on his face. Wiping the face covered with milk, Simon smiled gently. With a gentle smile he said that it would have been nicer if it was poured into his tummy. The lady felt ashamed of herself. She let him into her house and served him some drinks. His soft words turned away her wrath. She got to know Jesus. His meekness led her towards Christ.
In the second chapter of Exodus Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. He looked this way and the way and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. How wrathful Moses was! But in the third chapter God spoke to him from the burning bush. Later when he led the Israelites out of Egypt to Canaan the people murmured against him and they even tried to stone him. But he was never furious. Instead of getting angry, he told everything to God. God himself certified “Moses was very humble more than all the men who were on the face of the earth.” Self-control is a fine trait of a true Christian.
Dear in Christ, we are not going to gain anything by our anger. We might have been short tempered before being saved by Jesus. Do we still possess the carnal nature of being wrathful? Let us ponder. If we have the love, mind and nature of Jesus Christ in our heart, like Moses we will not be easily provoked no matter how big the problems and struggles we encounter are We will refrain from anger and forsake wrath and pray to the Lord almighty. God will testify us. Amen.
