Great danger

“Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify me.” – Psalms 50:15

The coronavirus covid-19 pandemic rapidly spread all over the world last year. Everywhere we could hear the cries of lamentation for the dead and the wave of fear of death among the people. We turned to God earnestly and went down on knees for protection and safety from covid19. This is quite natural to call upon God in the day of trouble. We seek God and cry unto Him when we are ill with terminal diseases, in debt or loss and in adverse situation and when we face natural disasters. But the above-mentioned troubles are not so dangerous as sin. Sin is more dangerous, more destructive and deadlier. It is high time we were delivered from the bondage of sin. Only sin hinders us from being Holy and blocks our way to eternal heavenly life after death. To get complete freedom from sin, we must turn to Jesus who forgives and cleanses our sins.

David called upon God and prayed for relief and deliverance from his oppressors and adversaries. He prayed to God in time of trouble for timely help. But when he lusted after Bathsheba and struggled with the sin of adultery, he did not ask for God’s strength to resist it. Likewise, Samson after slaying a thousand men with a fresh jawbone of a donkey, became very thirsty. So, he cried out to the Lord and said, “I shall die of thirst…” When he was blinded and humiliated, he cried out to the Lord at the end of his life saying, “O Lord God, remember me; I pray, strengthen me. I pray.” But when he fell prey to lust, when sin came in the form of Delilah, he did not remember God and make plea to God for deliverance.

In this world we are tempted by satan and his snare is laid all around us in the form of social media, face book, WhatsApp, Instagram, online game and wicked friends. We are surrounded by evil doers. Do we call upon God when we are enticed and ensnared by sin? Some are trapped and fall victim to sin and try to end their lives. The Bible says, “When desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin and sin when it is full grown brings forth death” (James 1:15). We must protect ourselves from being a prey to sin by praying and seeking God’s help. He is faithful to deliver us.
