Symbol of victory

“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” – Galatians 6:14

The battle of the Milvian Bridge broke out between the Roman Emperor Constantine and Maxentius. Constantine in his dismay, looked up to the sun before the battle and saw a cross to light above it and with it the Greek word which meant “† In this sign, conquer!” At once Constantine commanded all his troops to adorn their shields with cross, the Christian symbol and thereafter they were victorious. His success was attributed to divine intervention. This dramatic event of their triumph marked the beginning of Constantine’s conversion to Christianity and paved way for his tolerance for Christianity and the spread of Christianity. 

Today the entire world commemorates crucifixion and the death of Jesus at Calvary. Cross which was deemed once as a symbol of curse and shame has been converted into a symbol of triumph and life. Thus, apostle writes to the Galatians, “I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” We must take pride in the cross symbol, the symbol of victory, life and Christian faith. The shadow of cross is the place of peace and rest. It is not a magic symbol. The glory and splendour of the cross can be visualized only by those who are set free from sins by the crucifixion of Jesus. 

Dear ones, do we follow Jesus carrying our own cross daily? Do we pay heed to the word of the cross and receive the power of God? If it is so, we will be victorious not only in this age, but also in that which is to come. At times we may feel fatigue, dismay and scared. We can be bold as our saviour Jesus Christ bore all our sins, curses and sickness in His own body on the cross and conquered death and got victory. Let us inherit the triumph He earned for us by crushing the serpent’s head. Let us lead a victorious life in Christ.
