God’s chosen fast
“…These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone” - Matthew 23:23
Now we are at the end of the Lent days. In a real sense, Lent days are a spring time for the soul and a season of spiritual refreshing. Of course, we attend spiritual meetings in churches, listen to sermons and messages and fast and afflict ourselves with hunger. Though they are essential, we have to ponder this matter. Above all, is the fellowship between God and ourselves being strengthened in these days? Many a time we give importance to tradition and outward cleanliness and disregard the sanctification of the heart. Here is a questionnaire to analyze and assess whether our fasting was acceptable and God chosen fast and in accordance with the word of God.
1. Has the bond of iniquities been loosened in our life? Have we turned away from transgressions and sins? Have we strived to help out someone from burden of sin? (Isaiah 58:6)
2. During these forty days did we take steps for the deliverance of someone who is enslaved to sin? (Isaiah 58:6)
3. To how many souls did we share the love of Jesus? Did we help the people who are oppressed by sickness, pain and suffering to get relieved from it? (Isaiah 58:6)
4. Did we share our food with the hungry? Did we help and take care of the cast out with compassion? (Isaiah 58:7)
5. We have purchased new clothes for Easter. Have we given clothes to anyone? (Isaiah 58:7)
6. Were we indifferent and hard hearted to our flesh and blood when they were in trouble? (Isaiah 58:7)
7. Was our fasting acceptable to our Father who sees from the secret place? Or did we appear to men to be fasting with a sad countenance? (Matthew 16:17)
Beloved ones, how were the days of our fast? Did we fast to gratify ourselves? Was our fasting acceptable and God’s chosen? If not, let us pray today with contrite sighs. Let us submit our old self to be crucified with Him. This is a trust worthy saying: “If we die with Him, we shall also live with Him.”
