Need for spiritual mothers

“…for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” - 1Corinthians 4:15

Romania is a communist country which is behind the Iron Curtain. Richard Wurmbrand who preached the gospel, was imprisoned and tortured. He suffered persecution and died as a martyr for Christ. In fact, in the beginning he was a Jewish atheist. A German carpenter and his wife had been praying earnestly that God would bring a Jew to their village because the carpenter longed to bring a Jew to Christ. His prayer was answered. Richard Wurmbrand was greatly influenced by the love they showered on him. Their motherly love towards him won his soul for Christ. This laid a good foundation for Wurmbrand’s ministry and for sharing the love of God. 

In Egypt Moses’ mother took pains to hide baby Moses for three months, although the Pharaoh had commanded every baby boy to be cast into the river. She took great care to bring him up secretly. Later the baby’s sister stood afar to know what would be done to him. Moses’ mother did not think about the consequences they had to face if the secret was revealed. Only the thought of saving her son filled her mind. Such was the love of a mother. Later Moses became a great leader and saviour to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. 

In the above read incidents someone played a major role for the spiritual growth and success. In Moses life, his mother played a vital role to raise him up and her love as a mother towards the baby was remarkable. The carpenter took up the role of a mother to bring Wurmbrand to Christ. We are in need of such mothers. Let us play the role of mothers to the non-christians and show them the love of God. Let us lead them into all truth. Let us dedicate ourselves to labour until Christ is formed in them. Apostle Paul begot so many spiritual children. Let us become the spiritual mothers to beget spiritual children, who will turn the world upside down and lead many to righteousness.
