Old bundle

“…forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…” – Philippians 3:13

A certain king proclaimed that there was a royal banquet at the palace. It was the order of the king that all the partakers must be clothed in fine and special garments as that of royal robes. A beggar heard about the grand feast and desired to take part in the banquet. He decided to get an old royal robe from the king. With much difficulty he met the king and asked for his stately attire. The king gave his old robes to him. On the day of the banquet the beggar went to the palace suitably clad in royal robes. But he was not ready to part with the bundle of his old dirty clothes. He carried it to the palace and thus he was sent out. He missed the royal banquet. He kept the bundle of dirty clothes by his head till he breathed his last.

According to the word of God, our sins are forgiven by Jesus when we repent. He graciously gives us new life. But without understanding the exceeding greatness of God, we carry the bundle of old sins with us. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Satan discourages us and makes us weary. He makes us think that we are not suitable for doing ministry. He makes us feel guilty of our past sins. Thus, we are prevented from moving ahead and growing in Christ. Beware of such unnecessary burdens and worries thrust upon us by Satan.

Beloved, many of us are still carrying the bundle of old sins in our lives. It may be a bundle of greed, a bundle of lust, a bundle of pride or a bundle of covetousness. We are blessed and called to the marriage supper of the lamb, as we have been redeemed by Jesus. Let us realize the exultant heavenly life and strip off all the burdens. Let us forget the things behind and move forward to the things which are ahead.
