Beam in your eyes

“And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?” – Matthew 7:3

A couple lived on the second floor of a multistory apartment. One evening both husband and wife sat near a glass window and were having tea. The family in the opposite flat had hung out the washing. The couple looked at the hanging clothes through the glass window and they seemed to be very dirty to their eyes. The husband said to his wife, “The family in the opposite flat does not know what cleanliness is. Just have a look. How dirty their washed clothes are!”  Then the wife remarked, “No one is found as clean as we are! What kind of people they are!” After sometime their maid servant came and cleaned the dirty glass window which was full of dust. The couple felt so penitent. Actually, the clothes were clean but only the glass window was covered with dust. 

Let us open the Bible and read the wonderful verse in the gospel of Matthew 7th chapter. Jesus instructs us to look at the plank in our eye. Human heart throbs to expose the errors of others by all means but to ignore the faults on our side. But it is not acceptable according to the word of God. Unmindful of the big beam in our eye, we are trying to take away a small speck in others eye. Word of God cannot be destroyed by time. The word of God stands; It lasts forever. It is quite useful to everyone in his day-to-day life. We should never forget that when we point out the faults of others without index finger, three fingers are pointed towards us. No one is perfect and so we must be freed from the spirit of fault finding. 

We have been called to follow Jesus and live as He lived. So, let us not blame others. Let us submit ourselves to the practical training. We will all try and rectify the big beam like faults in us. Then we will pray for the others whose mistakes are small so that there will be a noticeable change in them. We should show ourselves to others as leading a practical Christian life in Christ. God will be glorified through our lives.
