Good out of evil
“Do yourself no harm….” – Acts 16:28
When Helen was riding her scooty bike, a little girl came across suddenly and so she lost her balance and the scooter hit a nearby tree and Helen fell off her scooter. When opened her eyes, she understood that she was in the hospital with injuries. It took two weeks time for her to be discharged after recovery. When she was back home, an expensive car was parked in front of her house one day. The gentle man who got out of the car asked for forgiveness to Helen as his little daughter was the cause for her accident. He also asked her if she could receive compensation from him for the damage. But Helen did not accept any help from him. Moreover, she stated with a smiling face that even if she had lost her life in the accident, she would have gone to heaven to rejoice. Her words made the rich man think. He said, “I am rich but I am afraid even to think about my death. I am willing to spend any amount of money to enter heaven. Please show me the way.” Helen was given an opportunity to share the gospel. She described everything about Jesus and His sacrifice. In this way the one who came to help Helen was helped by Helen to know Jesus.
In the inner prison, Paul and Silas were chained and their feet were fastened in the stocks. But at midnight they were praying and singing hymns to God. Suddenly there was an earthquake. All the doors were opened and the chains were loosened. Awakening from sleep the keeper of the prison, supposing that the prisoners had fled, drew his sword to kill himself. Paul stopped him from doing it and cheered him up. As Paul was kind and fair, not only the keeper but all his family believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and were baptized. Imprisonment was a bitter experience in the life of Paul and Silas. But intended evil became eventually good. God can bring good out of evil.
Beloved ones, we must not get weary of the problems we come across in our lives. They work together for good. Like Paul and Silas and then like Helen when we are amid distress, we can bring someone to Christ.
