The chosen vessel  

“…for he is a chosen vessel of mine to bear my name…” – Acts 9:15

Africa, known as the dark continent was illuminated with the light of the gospel by David Livingstone. Born in Scotland in a poor Christian family, he became a doctor by his hard work and undergoing hardships. At the age of twenty, he heard about Africa and its people through Robert Moffat, a missionary. He committed himself to set sail to Africa where Christ was not known and no missionary had been before. He was the first missionary doctor to explore Africa. He travelled 700 miles and opened up a path in the interior parts of Africa. He did ministry in the villages that were among dense forests. Once an African came and asked Livingstone “Why didn’t you preach Jesus early? Our ancestors had never heard of Jesus till their death” He felt heartbroken at the anguish of the man. He continued his ministry with zeal, though his health was deteriorating. Livingstone was God’s elect to diffuse the light of the gospel in the dark continent. Now the heavenly mansion is adorned with this living stone.

In the Holy Bible, Saul who was also called Paul was entrusted with the great mission of proclaiming the word of God to the gentiles. Paul suffered persecutions and afflictions for Christ and carried out ministry. He ministered when he was in prison and won many souls for Christ. In his journey of ministry, he moulded many ministers and founded many churches. He says in 1Corinthians 11:1 “I imitate Christ.” He bore in his body the marks of the Lord Jesus. 

Beloved in Christ, our ancestors and many kith and kin had gone to grave without knowing Jesus. Let not another generation be deprived of the bliss of heaven without knowing Jesus. Let us commit ourselves to spread Jesus the light to the people in darkness like Livingstone. Shall we minister for Christ like Paul? God has chosen every one of us to do His ministry. We should never forget that each believer is a soul winner for Christ Jesus.
