Who are Christians?

“…And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” – Acts 11:26

In some countries, the one who has accepted Christ Jesus as the savior is known as a Christian. But in India whoever is born in a Christian family, calls himself a Christian. But the Holy Bible clearly tells us only the disciples of Jesus are Christians. So, unless we understand who the disciples are, we cannot assess who all deserve to be called Christians.

Jesus points out whosoever, (John 13:35) whosoever that bears more fruit, (John 15:8) and whosoever that forsakes all in His disciple
(Luke 14:33). Jesus says that His disciples must possess His traits such as self-denial, unselfishness and willingness to bear the Cross.

We are not Christians just because we were born in a Christian background. If a mouse has a new litter of babies in a biscuit box, they cannot become biscuits. We cannot stay content and happy as we had repented, confessed our sins and accepted Jesus Christ as our personal savior a long time back. We need to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance daily. The fruit of the spirit is all goodness, righteousness and truth. We should not have fellowship with the unfaithful works of darkness but rather expose them. Instead of being barren, we must get into the habit of doing good works. When we dedicate ourselves to bear fruits for the Lord, the Holy Spirit sanctifies us and helps us bear much fruits through the word of God and reprimands. As we are the branch, we must abide in Jesus who is the vine to give more fruits. If the branch does not abide in Jesus, the vine and lose fellowship with the vine, it cannot yield any fruit.

Thus, those who live as disciples of Jesus according to the counsel of the Holy Bible are true Christians. Just think, whether we live like Christians as defined in the Bible.
