Rod of Moses
“The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” – Exodus 4:2
When God interrupted in the life of Moses, he began the interruption with an interrogation. He posed a question, “What is that in your hand?”
The very same question was put forth by God to a certain man of God. He replied, “I have just a pen with me. Fill my pen with your holy blood that was shed in the cross of calvary. Let the blood put your glory in writing! Let your great compassion be written with it! Let your tender mercies and loving kindness be expressed with it!” God worked through him and he wrote hundreds of books that are a blessing to lakhs of people. He was none other than our beloved Brother Rev. Sam Jebadurai, the founder of Elim Glorious Revival Church Chennai and editor of Antantulla Appam, a daily devotional magazine.
Moses who was held high in the palace of the Pharaoh, had an ordinary rod that all the shepherds hold. The Lord raised a query only about his staff. Didn’t the Lord know what Moses was holding in his hand? In the same way one cool day God enquired Adam, “Where are you?” Didn’t the Lord know that he was hiding behind the trees? From these incidents we do understand that God arouses us to think well, whenever he questions us.
Moses’ staff, David’s slingshot and pebbles, Gideon’s clay pot, lamp and trumpet, samson’s jaw-bone of donkey, the poor widow’s two mite and five loaves and two fish of the little boy were used powerfully by God to perform mighty miracles when such little, insignificant things were committed to God whole heartedly. We may have special skills and talents in singing, writing, public speaking or playing instruments. If we dedicate our skills and talents to God, they will be blessed and made fruitful to thousands and lakhs of people. It is enough if we just offer what is in our hand and what is gifted to us. He can work wonders with them.
