Embodiment of sacrifice

“Honor your father and mother,” – Ephesians 6:2

Beloved kids! You all like gifts very much, don’t you? Yes, you are a precious gift to your parents. So, they love you so deeply and devotedly. But you cannot select your parents. They have been chosen and given as a gift by God exclusively for you. So, when you honor your parents regardless of their imperfection your life will be blessed. Ok, let us proceed to the story.

Vignesh was a handsome lad with sparkling, lively eyes. He was very intelligent as well. The teachers and his classmates were fond of him. But there was a flaw in his character. He could not love his mother truly. He kept his distance from her as she had a fierce countenance with a single eye. He was not at all pleased with the tasty food she prepared and the support and help rendered to him. Actually, he could not understand the unconditional love of his mother. He never let his mother come to school with her ugly face. But his mother with much hardships educated him. She was a tearful prayer warrior and it had made a difference in his life later. He was the school topper in class 10. When he was honored, brushing aside his mother, he took photos with his teachers. But the loving mother was neither upset nor hurt by his behavior. By God’s grace she managed to get help for his higher studies.

God intervened in his heart. One day when his mother was away from home, he opened his mother’s trunk (box) and perused everything. He was rather shocked to read the text of a medical certificate that stated that his mother was the donor of one of her eyes to him. He was shattered and wept bitterly. He received forgiveness from God. Thereafter he showered his love on his mother, who was a precious gift from God. With a broken heart he said, “How shall I pay you back for all you have done for me?” He fondly took care of her and she enjoyed the warmth of her son’s love till her end.

Dear little sister and brother, our mothers have done a lot of sacrifices for our sake. It is not so easy to forget the days she carried us in her womb, the sleepless nights spent with us when we were babies and the anxious days of our ailments and so on. In every phase of our growth, she had given up her health, time, rest and sleep. So, we are indebted to them in love. We can thank them for the delicious food they prepare. We can be thankful for their support and help. If we honor our parents, Jesus is delighted.
