We are living in a period in which the word “trending” has become a trend. Once I visited Kodaikanal. There I happened to see a man pouring a bucket of ice water over his head and shivering with cold. His friends cheered him up and recorded the video. When I enquired them about the activity, they replied that it was called Ice Bucket Challenge and they added that it was the modern trend to perform challenging tasks. They affirmed my ignorance by their sarcastic look. 

But the truth is Ice Bucket Challenge is an activity introduced in 2014 and performed to promote awareness of the disease known as Molar Neuron Disease and to encourage donation to research. But nowadays this activity is played out for fun and enjoyment and made a trend. In the modern age, the youth do not have the inclination to reason out the purpose behind their activities and their consequences. In their own eyes they are the wise who know everything as they keep updated. They look down on us with contempt and sometimes we are hurt by their remarks about us for not keeping updated. Dearly beloved sisters and brothers, we have not been called to be one with the world. The Holy Bible instructs us, “to be wise in what is good and simple concerning evil.” Sometimes you may worry for not being able to keep yourselves updated. Do not get troubled. If you are a believer who meditates on the word of God day and night with the help of the Holy Spirit, you are the one who is truly wise knowing not only the present events but also the past from the creation of the world and the future to the end of the world.

The world is moving swiftly after evil. In the name of style and trend, novelty has been introduced in the way of living, dressing and speaking. All sinful works are called fashion. Let us be wise in godliness and in the works that are pleasing to God. In the new year let us give top priority to the word of God which is ever in updated mode.
