Changeable man

“Curse is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.” – Jeremiah 17:5

Monetary support was assured by an elder sister to her younger sister who was in financial trouble. The elder sister gave her an assurance to lend her an amount of 1 lakh rupees without interest that could be repaid at her convenience. Miraculously God helped them to find a suitable life partner for her daughter and the marriage had been fixed. The younger one approached her sister for the assured amount of money. But her sister bluntly refused to meet her requirements and stated that she could not help her in the present situation even though she had assured in the past. She gave many reasons for not keeping her word. As she pinned the hope on her sister, she was totally disappointed. As the marriage was held during lock down period, only close relatives attended and everything went off well by God’s grace. Yes, the love, character, mind and thoughts of people many change even within a day. In the Holy Bible we come across people who had changed their thoughts in an hour. 

During Paul’s voyage to Rome, they had a ship wreck but somehow, they reached the island called Malta. The natives showed them unusual kindness. They kindled a fire to keep themselves warm from rain and cold. When Paul laid a bundle of sticks on the fire, a viper fastened on his hand. When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt, this man is a murderer. Though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.” But Paul shook off the viper into the fire and suffered no harm. They expected him to swell up and fall down dead. No such things happened to him. At once they changed their minds and remarked that he was a God. This is the natural trait of all human beings. People may place you on a pedestal and laud you but no wonder if they crush you under their feet one day.

Beloved ones, the mind of men keeps changing. So never trust men and give second priority to God. Men make use of us and break us. But God breaks us to be used by Him. Men make friends expecting some gain. But God seeks us to provide us with good things. Men look for worthy persons. But God chooses unworthy people to make them worthy by His spirit of grace. Circumstances alter man. Our Lord never changes his mind. Jesus Christ is the same forever. He is unchanging. Who are you going to trust? Ever changing man or never changing God.
