I am the man
“Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.” - Psalm 19:12
Once Charles Spurgeon happened to voyage with the prisoners. He was conversing with them freely. Then he asked them why they had been imprisoned. Most of the prisoners put the blame on others for their miserable plight. A few of them laid the blame on circumstances. But only one prisoner owned up his fault. He admitted saying, “The love of money induced me to steal so I am the one to be blamed for my sad condition.” At once Spurgeon patted him on his shoulder and encouraged him saying that he was not far from the kingdom of God. A police officer overheard their conversation. He permitted the prisoner to disembark with Charles Spurgeon at the same Port. After some days the prisoner accepted Jesus Christ as the saviour and soon, he was a soul-winner for Christ.
Generally speaking, we do not accept our faults when they are pointed out. We tend to cite one reason or the other to prove our innocence. This has been a common occurrence right from our first parents – Adam and Eve. But God will certainly respect and accept the one who realizes his mistakes. David’s life is a fine example for the same. We are familiar with David’s sin involving Bathsheba resulting in adultery and murder of Uriah. When God sent His prophet Nathan to confront David with his sin, neither did he cover up his sin nor tell many other reasons for the death of Uriah. Though in power, he did not try to justify his sin and protest his innocence. He acknowledged his sin from the depth of his heart and repented truly. We actually have the very text of David’s prayer of confession written for us in Psalm 51. When we read this Psalm our respect and regards for David seem to increase. God accepted his Psalms and they are present in the Holy Bible. Yes, it is so simple and easy for God to transform the life of a person who understands his sins and then to use him for building God’s kingdom.
Friends, God intervenes with you. Do you keep on blaming the circumstances for your faults? Are you living without an intention to set things, right? We must obey and put the matters right when God speaks to us through His words or messages. God never fails to accept and bless the one with a broken and contrite heart. If you want to grow in your spiritual life do away with self-righteousness and come to Him as you are and you will be blessed.
