Aren’t they fine apples?   

“Create in me a clean heart, O God….” – Psalms 51:10

Dany went with his father to buy some fruits. An array of various, colorful fruits was on display at the fruit shops. Dany’s father felt each apple and picked the best ones and put them in the basket. Dany’s mother washed the apples pretty well and cut them. An ugly, green worm was found wriggling inside an apple. On seeing the worm, Dany asked his father how could it be possible for a worm to enter into the apple that was so good and fine. His father explained to him, “Some insects lay eggs in the flowers. The flowers change into fruits. The eggs inside, develop into worms and survive inside the fruit.” It was a great surprise to Dany. 

Just like the worm we were conceived in sin in our mother’s womb. These indwelling sins reign in our mind and mortal body. Cain and Abel were the first two babies born in the world. Nobody was there to pass on bad influence to them. Quite naturally Cain’s mind was corrupted by wrath, fret and envy. The spirit of vengeance was harbored in his heart. He eyed Abel with disdain and abhorred him to that extend of murdering him. How did Cain acquire these bad traits? It was the manifestation of the sinful nature of our flesh. 

Christian life helps us to overcome our original sinful human nature and to lead a spiritual life. Can we conquer this carnal nature by our own power and strength? No. But we can assure that it is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. If we are led by the Holy Spirit we can win over every situation and every problem we encounter every day. As apostle Paul says we must crucify our old man with Christ so that the body of sin might be destroyed and we can no longer be slaves of sins. Paul says, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” This must be the experience of every one of us. Only Jesus can give us grace to lead a victorious life in Christ. Hallelujah!
