Forgiveness 

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” – Matthew 6:14 

Robert, a Scottish boy had a strife with Jacob, his classmate. During the fight, Robert knocked Jacob down so hard that Jacob lost his life on the spot. Robert was sent to Juvenile correctional confinement for seven years. Before he was taken to the detention centre, Jacob’s mother met him and spoke to him in a gripping way. She poured out her feelings with tears saying, “You caused the death of my only son. But I forgive you. I will look after you and consider you and your siblings as my own children. I lost my beloved son and I can not see him in this world again. So, I accept you and your siblings as my own children. Robert and his family members fell on Jacob’s mother’s neck and wept for a while. 

The scripture says that Joseph was hated by his envious brothers. They seized him and cast him into the empty pit in the wilderness. Then they lifted him up out and sold him to Ishmaelites as a slave. We read that when Joseph rose to power without taking vengeance, he assures his brothers saying, “Don’t be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Joseph comforted them and spoke kindly to them. (Genesis 50:21)

Dear friends, we may be wounded and blamed unnecessarily for something that was not our fault. We may be suffering due to the blunder made by others. But unless and until we forgive them with the love like Christ, we cannot do away with our bitterness, murmur and jealous. It will not be so easy. If we do not forgive others, our Father will not forgive us our sins. Joseph has shown us how to forgive without holding a grudge. Our Lord will nourish many others through us and He will use us to carry out His purpose in our lives. Hallelujah.
