Delivering power of the hand

“Call to me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3 

Richard wurmbrand who was of Jewish decent, served as a pastor in Romania. He was imprisoned for many years for preaching God. He experienced persecution and torture in prison. He was beaten up cruelly and forced to deny Christ and his faith in Him. But he refused to reject Jesus at any cost. In his book “The order of God” he describes how he could enjoy perfect peace and serenity amid the unpleasant and extremely cruel situation by narrating the following short story.

“The ship was setting sail on a vast and mighty ocean. The captain’s wife was also voyaging. Suddenly a great storm broke out. Towering waves and powerful wind tossed the ship. The captain’s wife asked the captain how he could remain quiet and peaceful when there was turbulence and turmoil in the sea. The captain took a knife and held it to her throat. But his wife stayed calm and composed. When she was asked about the reason for her quietness, she said, “Why should I feel scared? Is not the knife in my beloved husband’s hand? I am so sure that you will not stab me as you love me deeply.” 

Then the captain affirmed, “Just as you say, the same trust and love I have in Jesus is the reason for my tranquillity. The swelling waves and strong storm can be quietened as it is in the hands of the mighty God, our Father in Heaven.” 

Beloved, is the windstorm blowing in our life? Are we dismayed not knowing what to do? Are we stumbling unaware of where to go? We have the Lord our God. He is the all-powerful God who rebuked and calmed the storm. When He said, “Peace be still,” there was great calm in the sea. He is the living God who is powerful to calm the storm and wind in our lives. We need not be anxious and lose heart. Our God says, “Call upon me” He will deliver us from our troubles as He is the same for ever.
