Bye to our desire

“Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.” – Hebrews 11:25

Many years ago, an American missionary went to China to do ministry. As he had the command over Chinese language (Mandarin), he was able to do the ministry powerfully. Observing his good knowledge of the language, a renowned oil company desired to appoint him as its representative. They promised to offer him higher salary than he was receiving for his ministry. But he bluntly refused to accept the offer. When he was inquired about the reason for his rejection of the good offer, he stated, “I am winning souls for eternal life and saving them from being thrown into eternal fire. So, I cannot leave this magnificent task.” 

When Moses was brought up in the palace as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, he would have enjoyed all worldly pleasures. We read in Acts 7:22 that “He learned all the wisdom of the Egyptians and mighty in words and deeds.” But when Moses became of age, esteeming the reproach of Christ great in riches than the treasures in Egypt, he chose to suffer oppression with God’s people rather than to experience the fleeting enjoyment of sin. Thus, he led the Israelites and delivered the people from their bondage in Egypt. 

Beloved in Christ, the two above quoted characters decided and dedicated themselves to be the instruments to proclaim the love of Christ. Look at what God did for us in Christ. God proves His own love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners and to grant us eternal life. Shall we dedicate ourselves to reach out to people with the path of salvation? Do we have the concern and burden for the unsaved souls? Let us stop seeking our own profit and fulfilling our heart’s desire and let us utilise our time, talent and everything to make the people who are hopeless, desolated and dying in fear, understand the loving plan of God. In this way we can shine like the stars, as we lead many to righteousness. Hallelujah!
