The sinful woman

“Her sins which are many are forgiven, for she loved much…” – Luke 7:47

That woman was leading a sinful life. She came to know that Jesus was invited for a feast at the Pharisee’s house in her town. So, she hurried to the Pharisee’s house. She had heard the truth that Jesus alone could forgive her sins and thereby could receive true peace and comfort. So, she went there with preparation to receive salvation and peace. She did not worry about anyone or anything. She was neither frightened nor ashamed of anyone’s comment. She came there with an alabaster jar of fragrant oil. She stood behind Jesus at His feet weeping. She began to wet His feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. As she had understood that He could forgive all her sins, she expressed her great love, commitment and gratitude in different ways. Look, how she was commended by Jesus. He said, “She loved much.”

Is our love commendable by Jesus? We had been forgiven of a great many sins and so our love for Jesus should grow deeper and increase and intensified as that of the sinful woman. If our love for Christ is true, our fear and timidness will vanish and we will proclaim to the people around us that “Jesus is Lord and savior of the world and Prince of peace.”

Suppose the sinful woman who was forgiven happens to meet us, what would she tell us? She would say, “I am grieved to see lakhs and lakhs of people without knowing that Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and can give heavenly bliss, going on pilgrimages falsely hoping to get rid of their sins by bathing in the rivers. They make animal sacrifices, visit holy places and fast and afflict themselves. Many people engage in the adultery and fornication and many other people are alcoholic and addicted to drugs and some try to commit suicide without peace of mind. They have become slaves to all deadly sins. My plight was the same as theirs before I met Jesus. As I got to know that Jesus is the savior. I was redeemed from my sins. It is your responsibility to reach out with gospel to them. As I had experienced the intensity of sins, I am distressed. Won’t you reach out quickly to sinful people who are sinking in deep sin as I was once?
