Miriam’s wisdom

“…he who wins souls is wise.” – Proverbs 11:30

With the first cry and scream a handsome baby boy was born. The baby was smart moving his hands and legs. But there was no ray of happiness in their family. They seemed to be very sad. The mother was embracing the baby without letting him cry aloud. The mother, who must be glad and joyful was dull and in fear. The Israelites were in bondage in Egypt. But the Israelites multiplied and grew exceedingly. So, the Pharaoh commanded to kill the male babies by casting them into the river Nile. In such a terrible situation, could they be jubilant? No family would be happy. The baby had a brother named Aaron and a sister called Miriam. The family kept the birth of the baby boy a secret.

As the baby grew, he began to make more noise. The baby smiled at his brother and sister. Their mother felt that they could not hide the baby any longer. So, she sent her daughter Miriam to bring stalks of bulrushes and she told Aaron to get asphalt and pitch. They brought the materials their mother asked for, and wondered what their mother was going to make with it. Their mother wove a basket with the reeds and coated it with asphalt and pitch so that water could not enter into it. Their mother put the baby in the basket. Miriam and Aaron were weeping. They had no other way. They took the baby to the river Nile and they placed the basket in the reeds by the bank of the river. Miriam was on the river bank and she was watching what could happen to her baby brother. Soon the princess came to the river for bathing. The basket caught her attention. When she opened the basket, to her pleasant surprise, she found a sweet baby who was crying out of hunger. At once Miriam ran up to the princess and asked wisely if she could bring someone to nurse the baby. When she agreed, Miriam brought her mother as the nurse. The Pharaoh’s daughter said, “Take the child away and nurse him for me.” They thanked God for saving their baby. They were delighted to take the baby back home.

Did you see how Miriam acted wisely in the action plan to save the baby? Fine! You must also speak and do things wisely. Right? If you have baby sister or brother, you must love them and spend time with them and help them out. Suppose, your cousins (children of uncles and aunts) stay with you during holidays speak to them wisely, treat them kindly and you can take them to Sunday School or if you get a chance to VBS so that they will also grow in Christ.
