Father’s love
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…” – John 3:16
Madison was the daughter of Rick Van Peak and Mary of Michigan in America. Madison was diagnosed of cerebral palsy when she was two months old. She could neither walk nor talk. She was immovable. Her father Rick was a chain smoker and an alcoholic. He gave up all his bad habits to live a healthier and longer life for his disabled daughter. So, he decided to start training for outdoor races. Under the name “Team Maddy” Rick and his daughter took part in Marathons and triathlons. How could Maddy participate when she was immovable? Rick made special wheel chair, cart and boat for his dear daughter. Rick swam while pulling Maddy in a kayak, biked with her in a cart behind him, ran while pushing her in a wheel chair. In some races he carried her while running. They had participated in more than 70 races.
Once they participated in a triathlon which consisted of swimming, cycling and running. Maddy’s heroic dad pulled and pushed her with him, made every stride and stroke together towards the finish line. Watching his devotion and love for his disabled daughter, the audience gave him the title “The father of this century” and asked him, “Why are you doing such a lot for your daughter?” He replied, “My daughter loves the outdoor activities; she enjoys being outside, being in water feeling the breeze in her hair and in her face. She is my heart and I am her leg. Madison has changed more people’s lives than I have touched. We both form a fine team.” His compassionate reply undoubtedly touched the lives of many people. If we, the earthly parents show so much love our kids, how much more love our Heavenly Father will shower on us? God sent his only son into the world and let Him suffer and die on the cross for the sins of the world. How shall we pay back to Him for His unfathomable love? We must love Him dearly.
If we love Him, as Rick said, “I am her leg” let us say, “I am God’s leg” and go to the remote places where the gospel is unheard and let us say, “I am God’s lips” and comfort the sick, the afflicted and oppressed. We have been chosen to touch the lives of many people. Let us reach out to them by our love and comforting words. Let us proclaim the love of Jesus and bring them to Christ. Let us act thoughtfully.
