Don’t conceal

“He who covers his sin will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” – Proverbs 28:13

It was the routine work of Kala and her brother Sundar to take care of the 10 ducks they were bringing up. When they were minding the ducks, Sundar picked the stones and was throwing them for fun accidentally one stone hit one of the ducks and it died. Sundar was so scared of getting beaten up by his father that he requested his sister not to reveal her father about it. She blackmailed him into doing whatever household chores assigned to her. The next day Kala ordered Sundar to wash the clothes. When he refused to do it, she gave him a threat saying “duck”. In this way she got all her chores done by Sundar. Just to cover one wrong, he had to strain himself to do all his sister’s chores and at last he was ill with a fever. Mustering up all his courage, he revealed the truth to his father. Sundar was let off as it was done unintentionally. Unaware of what had happened Kala asked him to do all the work but Sundar bluntly refused to do it. When she reminded him about the duck, he ran out cheerfully to play saying duck threat was over yesterday. Yes, we must confess our faults or sins to Jesus. It is dangerous to conceal our sins. Only if we confess, we will be able to forsake them.

In today’s Scripture reading, we read how David realized his sin and with a broken heart confessed his sin and offered a prayer of repentance. Under the cover of his power as the king, he could have kept it a secret. But he felt remorse for his sin and confided openly. Acknowledging that only the Lord God can deliver him from sins he prayed. “Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight.” and “Wash me thoroughly and cleanse me from my sins.” With a broken and a contrite heart, he beseeched God to deliver him from the guilt of bloodshed. He pleaded with God to create in him a clean heart to lead a transformed life. Thus, he was forgiven by God.

Let us also with a contrite heart confess out sin to God without covering it. If we hide our sin, we will suffer a lot because of our guilty conscience. The Lord Jesus Christ alone can forgive our sins. Let us confess and obtain mercy from Him and find grace in His eyes.
