Do your best

"She has done what she could" - Mark 14:8

Johann Philipp Paprisius (1711-1791) was a German Christian preacher and Tamil scholar. Belongs to the Lutheran Church. In 1740, he came to Tamil Nadu and did his ministry. Translated English-Tamil Dictionary and Bible in Tamil. As there were different nationalities in his congregation in Chennai, he learned German, Dutch, Portuguese, English and Tamil to preach among them and preached in these five languages. His translation of the Scriptures in Tamil language played important role. When referring to his translation, Hooper said, "The work done by Paprisius must be hailed as a great work in the history of the translation of the scriptures." He did things as best as he could for the glory of the Christ.

The Lord Jesus Christ performed many miracles and signs during his days on earth. One day a woman did something that moved him greatly. That is, In the house of Simon the leper in Bethany. When Jesus was having a meal at the house, a woman brought a white stone jar containing pure ointment, which she had bought at a high price, and broke it and poured the ointment on his head. Some grumbled that the ointment should not be wasted like this and had to be sold at a higher price and given to the poor. But Jesus commended her saying “she did her best”.

Those of you who say I'm not called to the ministry don't worry about it. Jesus who promised that if two or three people gather in my name and pray with one accord, he will answer their prayers is still alive today. So, if we are in a situation where we cannot go directly to the work sites and evangelize, let us pray hard for such workers. We will give our best. Through this the Kingdom of God will be built strong. Let us also do our best and share in the kingdom of God.
