Action

"in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works" - Titus 2:7

Hudson Taylor, a missionary who served in China, was once called to pray for a starving family in the mid-night. As he began to pray, the words choked him. Because the silver money in his pocket was enough to satisfy the family's hunger. In his heart, the Lord said, "You worship and proclaim God who has compassion for people. But you are not ready to believe to give the money you have." Immediately Hudson gave the silver coin to the family and prayed. Reluctance was on his mind as it was the last coin he had. The next morning a gold coin arrived in the mail. After seeing it, he said, "The money deposited in God's bank will get 10 times more in 12 hours."

There are no such people in the world today. There are many who pray. But God is not a God who loves only in our prayers. He loves our actions too. A sage named Thorkal used to do good deeds. Even when her life was lost, God gave her the grace to get life back. It was not only the prayer that Peter prayed but the good deed that the saint did that made her come before God and raise her alive. We read in Ephesians 2:10 that God created us to do good works. And our faith must also be accompanied by action. Otherwise it will be dead as we see in James 2:26. We also see in the scriptures that when we do good deeds without getting tired, God will give us eternal life. God is able to see the good deeds we do from our heart and reward them in this life and the next.

Beloved, your light is your light, says Jesus Christ. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Be no longer a man of mere talk or prayer, but of action. Because it is through your good deeds that men can see the Christ in you. You are also a creditor to Jesus. Just as he gave Hudson Taylor ten times according to his power, cannot he give a thousand times when you do a good deed from your heart. Let's start in action. Let our light shine among those in darkness.
