Irrevocable call

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” – Romans 11:29

In the year 1270, a sailing ship hit a rock and was wrecked in New Jersey, America. A few passengers escaped the shipwreck. Pastor Murray was one of the survivors of the shipwreck. He lost his wife and children in the shipwreck. He stranded on an island. He could not bear the irreparable loss of his family. It made him question God and blame God for making him an orphan. He denied God and decided to spend the rest of his life in the island as he liked.

When he was walking along in frustration, he happened to meet a man. He said to the pastor, “I have been waiting for you.” Murray asked him how he knew him. He replied saying, “Pastor, I have a little knowledge of Jesus. My wife reads the word of God and we gather and hold Sunday service and worship in our house. But we do not have any one to teach and preach the gospel to the believers. So, we have been praying to God to send us a pastor who can stay with us and do ministry. Last night one church member had a vision in which he was told that God has a sent a pastor who is a survivor of the shipwreck. As God revealed, you have come.” Murray understood the calling of God. He settled in the island and did ministry according to God’s will. When the pastor was in great distress and grief, he could not understand the will of God. Now he overcame all his loss and sorrow and he was steadfast in his calling and carried out God’s ministry till his end.

Dear readers, after having accepted Jesus Christ sometimes we may encounter losses, disaster and grief and sorrow in our lives. But nothing happens without the knowledge of God. The Lord has chosen and called us in Him by His grace. We may feel like retreating when we look at the prevailing situation. But the one who has called us is faithful and His love is everlasting. Let us be established in His calling. He will do everything for our good.
