Daily Devotion (English) – 24.07.2021 (Bible Characters Special)

Canaanite woman 

“Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing you will receive…” – Matthew 21:22

Jesus went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A woman of Canaan came and cried to Him saying that her daughter was severely demon possessed and to have mercy on her. Jesus did not answer her as she was a gentile. (not Jewish) Moreover she was from the cursed Canaan race. Doesn’t the Bible say that “Cursed be Canaan!” (Genesis 9:25). Though she belonged to that race, she did not give up. Jesus said, “It is not good to take children’s (Israelites) bread and throw it to the little dogs (gentiles). She did not retreat though she was compared to the dog. She said, “Yet, even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master’s table. “Thus, she humbled herself down. In the end she received grace from Jesus. Moreover, she kept on asking Him without leaving him until the demon was cast out of her daughter. She got the fruit of her perseverance. Above all she specifically acquired the praise of Jesus for her exceptional faith. As desired by her, the daughter was healed. This Canaanite woman is a good example for us concerning our prayer for our children.

We too long for the deliverance of our children from sins, sicknesses and bad habits. When the problem is out of control, we plead with God and pray continuously and fervently. Once the problem is eased, the intensity and frequency of our prayer becomes less. But the Canaanite woman was persistent although she was deemed as a dog and her plea had lack of response from Jesus. She persevered and believed and thus received the miracle. 

Let us also take a resolution today. Let us say that, “We are going to pray persistently with faith for the deliverance of our children and for the answers to our prayers supplications and for breaking the barrier that blocks the blessings. We shall certainly receive a miracle and we will give glory to the Lord.” May God honour our faith in Him.
