Daniel
“…Daniel prospered…” – Daniel 6:28
Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it and brought the young men of Judah who were wise and prudent and with good understanding. Daniel was one among the young men of Judah. He observed the difference in food and habits. Thus, he made up his mind not to defile himself with the delicacies and wine of the king. Although there was no one from his family by his side to take care of him and admonish him if he went wrong, he was on the track and he did not go astray. Instead, he took a firm decision not to go far from God on any account though he was far away from his home and country. He was not corrupted as he lived with zeal and jealous for God. He resisted all temptations and endured suffering and nothing could deter him. He was promoted and made the ruler over the whole province of Babylon because of his fear of God and life of prayer.
Suppose Daniel is being asked to give a message to the young men at the youth camp, what will he share with us? He would say, “Dear young men, just as I was taken away as a slave to a far away country, you may be away from your parents for the cause of education or job. You may call your parents over the phone or through WhatsApp and talk with them many good things. You may have a nice word of God as display picture. But do you have a heart that seeks God? Have you taken a resolution not to defile yourself with the evil and filthy things around you? It may be a place without a church, without the fellowship with believers and without the monitoring of your parents. But your fellowship with God alone can protect you safely from all evil. My fellow workers began to envy me because of my promotion and exaltation and plotted against me but I was not at all scared. Then, when I knew that the decree was signed by the king, I went to my upper room. I opened the windows towards Jerusalem. I knelt down, prayed and gave thanks before God three times as I did before the king’s order. On the matter regarding God, it was not the obedience to the king but our submission to the King of Kings was required. You have to live with zeal and jealous for God in your workplace. The Lord who prospered me will grant success in your lives as well. I long to meet you again in heavenly Canaan.”
