Daily Devotion (English) – 07.07.2021 (Bible Characters Special)

Caleb 

“Let us go up at once and take possession for we are well able to overcome it” – Numbers 13:30

The land of Canaan, was the promised land that flowed with milk and honey. Moses sent twelve leaders one from each tribe of Israel to spy and explore Canaan. Ten of them returned and brought back word to them. They said, “We saw giants there; We felt as small as grasshoppers in our own sight.” They spread lies among the Israelites about the land they explored. They compared themselves with them and got frightened. But Caleb and Joshua did not look at themselves. They compared themselves with the almighty God who was within them. They said, “The Lord is with us. do not fear them.” “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” Let us learn a little more about Caleb, who was one of the heroes of faith. 

The testimony given in the Bible about Caleb is, “He has wholly followed the Lord” Yes, he had different spirit in him and had followed God fully and that created in him an unshakeable faith in God. All the Israelites were under the miraculous lead and guidance of the Lord. How was it possible for Caleb to have such strong faith while most of the Israelites had little faith? His simple but deep-rooted faith was that God had promised to give them the land of Canaan. His belief was “Has He said, and will he not do it?” “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” Although he was 85 years old, the strength he possessed was the same as he had in his forties. He asked Moses to give him mountain and thus inherited Hebron.

Beloved, do we have faith that we will inherit India some day? Or do we look at the government, the rulers, laws and adversaries and feel that they are stronger than us? and do we think we are minorities and so weak as grasshoppers? If we are the ones who follow the Lord wholly, surely, we will have the same unshakeable faith and zeal what Caleb had. The clear understanding of the greatness of God and His power to do marvellous things will give us the hope to overcome easily. We need not look at the situation or the men around us. We must look up at the mighty God who is within us. We can easily change India for Christ. For sure the Indians will inherit the kingdom of heaven in large numbers.
